African Elephant Bull (Loxodonta africana) | Moremi, Botswana An elephant bull presses his weight against the trunk of an old Camelthorn tree. Camelthorn trees provide good shade on hot days and are also a highly nutritious source of food for many animals, including elephants. Elephants can often be seen shaking trees in the hopes that any loose seeds or fruit may fall to the ground to be eaten. We observed this lone bull for quite a while. He spent most of his time simply resting trunk-to-trunk against the tree, occasionally showing interest in obtaining more tasty seed pods by pressing his weight forward or reaching up to the lower hanging branches.
